I've had this domain for quite some time. I was never quite sure what I wanted to do with it before. It is only lately that I realized what it was about Harlan County that meant so much to me.

Harlan is beautiful, that's for sure, but that is not what makes my heart sing when I near the county line. It's the memories of my family and the intrigue of the memories yet to be made.

I am from Cumberland and I now live in Harrogate, TN, but Harlan County will always be MyHarlan.

I believe that today's ills are caused by lack of roots and lack of family. My family had its share of problems, but, above all else, my family has always remained a strong source of support.

That's why, as I look forward to starting a family of my own, I am so very focused on keeping the lessons of love that my family has created alive.

Thank you, Mom (and Dad--I know you are watching) for creating a family so vividly alive with love, strength, courage and tenacity. I hope one day my children will be able to say that they learned the value of family from me and Gill.
